Limpopo Roadshow, 2007

The Connect Africa team, in partnership with primary sponsor Vodacom and partner Mogalakwena Municipality, carried out a very successful two day Roadshow in rural Limpopo.

Wednesday 14th saw the convoy visiting Lesodi Village in the morning and Garantlakana Village in the afternoon. Presentations were made by the Department of Labour, Eskom, Ward Counselor Mphela and several representatives from the Municipality. Our own Elais Mashilo facilitated the event and much fun was had with music, competitions for prizes and an opportunity for old friends to meet.

The serious side of the event produced the results intended and the local community had an opportunity to comment on what services are needed in their villages while the Connect Africa team was provided with an opportunity to explain and present our service offering.

The first day was followed by a festive braai (BBQ) for all the roadshow team members and the government officials who made the time to attend the roadshow. The Mokopane Biodiversity Conservation Centre was a great venue and provided an opportunity for everyone to meet and get to know one another socially.

The second day, Thursday 15th saw the team at the Bakenberg Tribal Community Hall for a presentation to coincide with the Limpopo Premier’s “State of the Province” speech being broadcast to over 200 the people in the hall.

Connect Africa’s Elias Mashilo was offered the opportunity to follow the Mayor’s speech and he presented the Connect Africa Service with his usual enthusiasm, eliciting a loud round of applause from a now very hungry audience.

The event was followed by lunch and some high energy music and dancing – all the more remarkable considering the temperature in the shade was not far off 40 deg C!

Many thanks to all those who gave up their Valentine’s day to participate in what proved to be a most successful event. Particular thanks must go to Elias and Rachel, Connect Africa’s loyal mobile unit team – without them there would be no Connect Africa.
