In a country where almost half of the population – about 46 percent according to the United Nations – is made up of people under the age of 15, Zambia pays tribute to its youth on Saturday March 12th.
The Youth Day Celebrations are usually marked with sports events and other community activities. This year the Connect Africa team will travel to Mumbwa to support various sporting activities including football – we will even supply a keen player!
Thousands of people are expected to gather at a business centre in Mumbwa, about an hour and a half’s drive from Lusaka, at a large sports area. MTN mobile network has offered to sponsor footballs and branded T-shirts among other equipment.
Youth Day offers an opportunity for government, organisations and enterprise to appreciate our youth’s potential contribution to the nation’s development. It also is an opportune time to reflect on youth-friendly policy and community projects, which can better enable Zambia’s youth to strengthen the future economy.
